Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Ivanhoe Uniting [former Methodist] Church - Memorial Window Description & History
The Methodist church at Ivanhoe was built in 1925 and was one of the larger auditorium-style suburban churches. In August 1925, the Argus reported that the church had received subscriptions amounting to nearly £100 for the window, which was expected to cost around £180. The large west window was one of several commissioned from EL.Yencken & Co. and designed by William 'Jock' Frater. The Ascension shows similarities with the same subject, also designed by Frater, for the Methodist church at Kyabram, and the figure of Jonathan was probably adapted from his earlier cartoons made for Anglican churches, St. Stephen's Wynyard (Tas.), Christ Church, Birregurra (Vic.) and Holy Trinity Maldon (Vic.).
