A single Mexican Fan Palm growing in the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens, close to the Curator’s Cottage.

This Mexican Fan Palm is significant for scientific, landscape and historic reasons at the State level.
Why is it significant?
The Mexican Fan Palm is scientifically significant for its outstanding size, in particular its impressive height. The tree is also significant for its contribution to the landscape as a landmark. The tree has historic significance as it is a part of a collection in the historic Warrnambool Botanic Gardens. It is likely that this tree was planted to observe Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897 (has not been confirmed).
