STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The railway bridge over the Yarrum Creek at Marcus, was constructed in 1879 as part of the Victorian Railways line from South Geelong to Queenscliff. This site is one of the few timber bridges associated with this line, and is the only one which is accessible from a roadway. The bridge has been upgraded since the commencement of the Bellarine Peninsula Tourise Railway between Drysdale and Queenscliff, in 1978.
This site has scientific, historic and social significance due to its function as part of the South Geelong to Queenscliff branch line, and its current function as the only accessible bridge crossing for people to view the steam train between Drysdale and Queenscliff. The materials and construction techniques are of technical interest.
It is of LOCAL cultural significance.
