STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The masonry bridge on the Princes highway at Waurn Ponds was erected in 1868 from designs prepared by Andrew McWilliams, architect and engineer to the recently formed Barrabool Shire Council. Clement Nash, a Geelong contractor and monumental Mason, erected this finely detailed. The Shire crest is incorporated into the basalt keystone. The Waurn Ponds Bridge is an excellent example of the masonry bridge construction of the mid 19th century, and although disused, is intact.
