Statement of Significance
Architecturally, a complete example of a rare and localised type which is enhanced by the brickwork details - of regional importance historically, associated with the area's horse training theme, also to a lesser degree a renowned figure in Melbourne meat-marketing of the 19th Century (house): of regional interest.

STABLES (FORMER) - Physical Description 1
An extensive complex, mainly built up by the renowned Mr. Kett whose house (c.1900), though large; is of a modest 19th Century design and in timber. The timber cross-head capitals mark the house's age but otherwise it appears Victorian period. Its picket front fence has been cut back and the pittosporum hedge gone wild.
The house appears to be a combination of two however it, like the stables, is generally externally complete. Roofing details have changed on the stables and the brickwork partly painted.
The stables are of brick and gabled, with a 10ft-level marked by an intermediate string-mould. An occulus vents the south gable end and a segment-arched opening the other: both gables have a decorative stepped corbel in the brickwork and each vent presides over a cathead. Four small segment-arched openings presumably light each stall and a pitched lane communicates between Crown and Coronet Streets along the south of the stable.
The stables are a distinguishably earlier part of a complex associated with horse racing (trotters) and primary produce marketing.
