Statement of Significance
What is significant?
The house formerly known as "Kilborin", built prior to 1882, at 2 Lorne Street, Moonee Ponds. The form, scale, and original external materials and detailing of the house contributes to the significance of the place.
Non-original alterations and additions are not significant.
How is it significant?
The house at 2 Lorne Street, Moonee Ponds is of local historic and architectural significance to the City of Moonee Valley.
Why is it significant?
It is historically significant as one of the first houses constructed in Lorne Street and illustrates the first phase of residential development in this area (Criterion A).
It is architecturally significant as a fine example of a Victorian era house, which is distinguished by the verandah iron work and large front windows. It has aesthetic significance as a building that contributes to the historic character of the Lorne Street precinct (Criteria E & F).

HOUSE - Physical Description 1
The house at 2 Lorne Street, Moonee Ponds is an early Italianate villa with a symmetrical stuccoed facade distinguished by its Gothic influenced cast iron verandah spandrels, columns and frieze, brackets and large main room windows with narrow styles. The hipped roof is corrugated iron clad and the chimney stack has been rebuilt. The verandah floor has bluestone margins with terracotta tiles. Inside, the layout and ceiling centre flowers are intact.
The house is in good condition and has a relatively high degree of external integrity. It makes a notable contribution to the historic character of the Lorne Street precinct.
