HOUSE (FORMER CHERITON) - Physical Description 1
An Elizabethan revival styled single-fronted brick villa, with a timber verandah and slated roof. The high Flemish gable, with its cemented scrolled pediment and lancet roof vent, provides an extraordinary scale contrast to the rest of this modest sized house. Turned verandah posts and banded chimney shafts are precursors to the later and prolific Queen Anne style whilst the panelled roundel motif in the verandah frieze is typically Medieval in origin. The trim is painted in a sympathetic colour (Compare with 99 Francis St, 283-7 Ascot Vale Rd and 29 Lorne St: all possessing the small frontage combined with the grand detailing).
Generally complete except for removal of the presumed timber picket fence.
Sited in a mixed streetscape, containing contemporary buildings such as no.99, and the later Queen Anne styled no.30.
