Why is it significant?
It is aesthetically significant (Criterion E) arises from the house's early date as an example of the emerging Federation style and from its position of prominence on Ascot Vale Road. The absence of a corner verandah which was to become so typical of the type, the elliptical arch to the front window and the emphasis given to the corner bay are characteristics suggestive of the house's early date, giving it distinction locally. This importance is enhanced by the intact state of the exterior.
