ESSENDON (MOONEE PONDS) COURT HOUSE (FORMER) - Physical Description 1
A Medieval revival, polychrome brick and stucco building of one level and a clerestory, which houses a furnished court room, ancillary rooms and an arcaded entrance porch to the west end. The Tudor arch and gable, associated hood moulds, papyrus friezes, the guilloche balustrading, candle-snuffer pinnacles and a high-gable slated roof, with iron roofed side aisles are all valuable attributes of this revival design.
The building is in good condition and is generally original except for the removal of the presumed timber picket fence, John Davies' cypress tree, and associated landscaping and trim colours.
In a streetscape context it is a major corner building and part of a group of nineteenth century civic and community buildings including the Anglican Church complex and the former town hall.
