PENLEIGH AND ESSENDON GRAMMAR SCHOOL - Physical Description 1
A picturesque, two-storey assembly of Elizabethan revival elements built in red brick and with cemented dressings to its Flemish gables and Tudoresque window bays. Composed as a series of different sized, gabled and parapeted bays, which descend the hillside. The western bays are overlaid with a two-level return verandah, supported on a stout timber posts and ornamented with cast-iron (the verandah appears to be rebuilt). String and window hood mouldings create strong horizontal lines which unite the larger more original and more skilfully designed Melbourne Teachers College Building, Grattan St Parkville.
Major additions have been made to the south-east corner of the house and the outbuildings removed; the verandah appears to have been rebuilt or altered; the trim appears to have been rebuilt or altered; the trim colours have changed; and the boundary fence replaced.
One of a group of large, late 19th and early 20th century houses.
