This was originally Almora, named after the ship they arrived on in 1844. The patriarch was William Charles Thomas, born in England in Cornwall. His grandson was born in Campbells Creek near Castlemaine, later moving to Talbot where he became a miller and then later established WC Thomas and Sons in Beaufort.
