STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
St Mary's Convent (former presbytery)
23 Dinwoodie St
Built on land originally purchased from the Crown by Bishop Gould as early as 1855, this house was built as a presbytery for the church of St Mary's in 1959. The builders were W J Henry & Son and could well have designed the building. ([i]) The style of the building is domestic vernacular in style and fits well with its function and the residential setting of the area. The style is created by the traditional scale, materials and detailing. This is enchanced by the period garden with its classic planting of roses in beds in lawn. The building is significantly intact and is in excellent condition. With its garden it is of local significance as part of the St Mary's complex.
[i] Foundation stone.
