C Listed- Local Significance
The bridge and its location over the Barwon River at Belmont is historically significant at a REGIONAL level. It is associated with the provision of access from the Geelong township on the northern banks of the river, to the Belmont and South Barwon region on the southern banks of the river from 1848 to the present day.
The bridge over the Barwon River at Belmont is scientifically significant at a LOCAL level. It illustrates the technological processes involved in 1920s bridge construction, and is of importance for its contribution to the understanding of the history of bridge construction at this location from 1855.
Overall, the bridge over the Barwon River at Belmont is of LOCAL significance.

Bridge over Barwon River - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION
The road bridge over the Barwon River at Belmont is constructed of steel plate girders and reinforced concrete and is 14.5 metres wide. The central pier and abutments are constructed of lime concrete slabs with reinforced concrete piles and the original timber piles of the earlier bridge built in 1855, and they support cantilevering reinforced concrete structural members.
