Statement of Significance
Non-original alterations and additions, other than those specified above, including the verandah posts and circular fretted valance, are not significant.
Aesthetically, the former Goller's Saddlery is a superior and intact example of an Interwar brick shop. The brick square parapet, straight roofed verandah and wide entry significantly contribute to the aesthetic and historic character of McCartin Street and the town of Leongatha. (Criterion E)
The building was built by Harris Goller, who lived in Leongatha after the first World War, during which he was a Saddler Sargent in the Light Horse Brigade. In the 1980s, his son Hec Goller was running the store as a sports store. This building and the lane next to shop (Gollers Lane) reflect the legacy of the Goller family on Leongatha. (Criterion H)
