Statement of Significance
What is significant?
The former Bush Nursing residence at 10 Walkerville Road, Tarwin Lower, built in 1926, is significant. The double fronted, weatherboard building has a transverse gable roof with a contiguous verandah, supported by simple wooden posts. There is a brick chimney to the North of the building and three-part multi-pane windows on the facade.

How is it significant?
The former Bush Nursing residence at 10 Walkerville Road, Tarwin Lower, is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the broader South Gippsland Shire.
Why is it significant?
Historically, the house was purpose-built as a Bush Nursing residence and is the only one of its type within the South Gippsland Shire. Prior to the establishment of this residence, nurses had to rent or board with local families to continue their work in the district. This building demonstrates the early development of health services and the public service sector, both in Tarwin Lower and within the South Gippsland Shire. It also illustrates the development of the Bush Nursing service in Tarwin Lower and surrounds. (Criterion A)
Aesthetically, the former Bush Nursing residence is a very noteworthy example of a simple Interwar house with a transverse roofline, a small chimney and a contiguous verandah. This building contributes to the aesthetic and historic character of Tarwin Lower. (Criterion E)
