6 Sidwell Avenue - Physical Description 1
The "Rothesay Court Flats" is an exceptionally imposing complex arranged symmetrically on a large allotment with spacious lawns sloping down to a low cement faced fence at Sidwell Avenue. Construction is of red brick with stuccoed enrichment and the style is Neo-Classical. There are pavilions at either end with paired window bays and flights of steps giving access to the upper level flats, the points of entry being protected by Tuscan order porticoes giving emphasis to the symmetrical arrangement of the elements. The axis is reinforced by a centrally located, recessed portico, approached via a staircase and terraced garden recalling Italian precedents.
This portico has a parapet concealing the roof from view and is two storeys high with a wrought iron balustrade and garden lights.6 Sidwell Avenue - Physical Description 2
