Victoria Street - Physical Description 1
The south side of Victoria Street comprising Nos. 58-82 in East Brunswick is a early twentieth century residential precinct, which predominantly comprises Federation/Edwardian brick houses including a detached asymmetrical villa (No. 58), and semi-detached single fronted cottages set close to the frontage (Nos. 60-66 and 80-82). Number 68 is a single fronted brick cottage in the style of the semi detached houses at 60-66 Victoria Street. These houses have gabled corrugated iron roofs with separate verandahs, supported on turned timber posts usually with timber fretwork and friezes. Fences are low and sympathetic, but are not original. The houses are very intact externally and retain original elements such as the side hung casement windows (some with decorative hoods), panelled timber doors and brick chimneys.
A notable building in the precinct is the double storey Victorian boom style Italianate house (constructed 1892) at No. 76 (and what is now 76a), built in elaborately decorated bi-chrome brick with an unpainted rendered parapet. The house is constructed from hawthorn brick with cream brick detailing. The side elevations are constructed from unpainted red brick. Chimneys are hawthorn brick with cream brick detailing and unpainted rendered caps. It retains an original cast iron front fence with bi-chrome brick piers and a bluestone plinth. An individual data sheet and Statement of Significance exists for this place.Heritage Study and Grading
