Statement of Significance
The Cr Harry Malcolmson Rogers Memorial Fountain on Bell Street Coburg.
How is it Significant
The Cr Harry Malcolmson Rogers Memorial Fountain is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it Significant
Historically, the fountain is significant for its associations with the locally important identity, Cr Harry Malcolmson Rogers who was an important figure in the civic and social life of Coburg during the interwar years, and is one of the few memorials erected in honour of a single person. It illustrates the high esteem in which he was held by his fellow citizens who raised the majority of the funds for its construction. (AHC Criterion H.1)
Aesthetically, it is significant as an outstanding example of a memorial in an exuberant art deco style, which is the only example of this style in the municipality. (AHC Criterion F.1)

Cr Harry Malcolmson Rogers Memorial Fountain - Physical Description 1
The Cr Harry Malcolmson Rogers Memorial Fountain is constructed of cement (?) in a stripped classical style with art deco motifs. It is situated close to Bell Street within GA Bridges Reserve.
Affixed to one column is a plaque that reads:
"Erected by the Citizens of Coburg To Perpetuate the Memory of Cr. Harry Malcolmson Rogers. 1935."
The setting of the fountain is complemented by the mature plantings of the GA Bridges Reserve, which date from the Edwardian or Interwar era
Comparative Analysis
There are no other memorials in this style in the municipality. Stylistically, the memorial is similar to the Edmond O'Donnell memorial in the O'Donnell Gardens in St Kilda, which was also erected in memory of a councillor and citizen of that suburb in 1927.Cr Harry Malcolmson Rogers Memorial Fountain - Physical Conditions
