Statement of Significance
Memorial situated within Gandolfo Gardens, adjacent to Moreland RailwayStation. The memorial is in the form of part of a trunk of a tree, cast in cement, surrounded by a bench seat. The plaque on the top of thememorial commemorates the removal of a 'canoe' tree and bears the following inscription:
This plaque is to record that on this site stood a stately old gum tree. Local residents claim that an Aboriginal canoe was cut from its trunk. Because it became dangerous it was removed on 9.4.1968.
