What is significant?
The quarry opposite 5 to 9 Imaroo Street, at the end of Argyle Street, Fawkner.
How is it significant?
The quarry opposite 5 to 9 Imaroo Street, at the end of Argyle Street, Fawkner is of local historic significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
Historically, it is significant for its ability to demonstrate the bluestone quarrying activity which was carried out extensively around inner city Melbourne when the Colony was being established, and more specifically along Merri Creek during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. It demonstrates an activity and land-use that has largely disappeared as a result of changes in building practise and materials. (AHC Criterion B.2)

Quarry - Physical Description 1
Two small quarry cuttings are located on the western side of creek opposite 5-9 Imaroo Street. The area is grassed, or exposed clay/soil, with an exposed basalt rock face. The site has been stabilised with metal pins and the eastern end further secured by a capping of concrete.
