LATINER HAT FACTORY (FORMER) - Physical Description 1
The Lattner Hat Factory at 20 Dawson Street, Brunswick is an Inter War factory of monolithic design in cement rendered brick featuring a two storey office block of vertical fins reminiscent of a Sumerian temple and a single story section with floor to ceiling glazing extending west along Dawson Street. A saw tooth roof covers a large site behind this facade.
Context:
One of several large industries around Dawson St. including Hoffman's Brickworks, W.T. Rawleigh and Miller's Ropeworks.
Condition and Integrity:
In good condition and apparently complete and original except for the colour scheme.
Comparative Analysis:
The simple geometric form and decoration and monumental charater of the building are comparable to 91 Victoria Pde, Fitzroy.Heritage Study and Grading
