Statement of Significance
Probably the finest of the large woolstore/warehouse buildings left in Melbourne. Construction began in 1861 & finished in 1862. Back section completed at a later date. It was important that an example of iron post and beam construction of this type should be preserved. Particular note is made of the ashlar bluestone masonry and prominently rusticated base and arches. The detail of the parapet panel bearing the Company's name is of particular note; the chimneys rising from the parapet are a noteworthy detail. Particularly important are the cast iron columns and associated wrought iron beams which support the timber floor joists designed to support the weight of wool in storage. All modern alterations, including all wall, floor and ceiling finishes are specifically excluded.
