Statement of Significance
Built in 1893 by Thos Cockram & Co to competition winning design of architects Smith and Johnson. The 150 ft. tower, with glass look-out and lower balcony which dominated the city skyline for half a century and the colonnaded facade from which the fire-engines dramatically emerged have remained important civic features.
The classification includes the tower and the two-storey building along the Victoria Parade front and extending around the Gisborne Street corner.
Classified: 10/04/1975
