Statement of Significance
Attractively situated close to the bank of the River Yarra near Princes Bridge, this rowing shed is a two-storeyed weatherboard building designed by A. S. Eggleston, erected by R. S. Jaines and opened in 1908.
The ground floor is used for the storage of boats and equipment and the first floor as club rooms, showers and toilets. The recessed verandahs at both ends have a very simple designed arched valance with a plain vertical square section infill pattern with matching balusters. The roof of the small lookout tower on the north east corner has similar architectural detailing. The south verandah has been partially enclosed. The building is associated with one of the oldest rowing clubs in Victoria and with many of Victoria's and Australia's best rowers. The concrete block extension on the west side of the building is not included.
