Statement of Significance
The original licensee was Thomas Stephens when the hotel was erected in 1869. The use of the building as a hotel terminated probably in 1879, however the licence was not suspended until 1919. The two storey brick structure is rendered on the street facades and has a hipped and slated roof.
The hotel is notable in the social history and development of the inner suburbs. This particular example with its chamfered composition and simple mouldings is typical. It is designed in the conservative classical style and notable features are the elliptical arched windows and the facade articulation at the corner. It is prominent in the streetscape and important because of its completely intact facades.
