Statement of Significance
A two and a half storey prefabricated house with a frame of American timber, cladding of shiplap or chamferboard, and a pretty arched porch, erected in 1854 for the prominent merchant George Ward Cole, and occupied from the 1870's by Osborne House ladies college. The porch relates to contemporary American sources and in some ways resembles that of Cole's own house, the now-demolished St Ninian's Brighton, the lugged window architraves derive from Parker's Villa Rustica, and the shiplap boarding resembles that of some other early prefabricated houses such as Lyndhurst Hall, Pascoe Vale.
