Statement of Significance
Footscray Railway Station is a very important example of its group. Key elements within the station environment include the buildings themselves, the footbridge and the approach under the footbridge through the landscaped railway reserve. The western facade of the building is an architectural 'tour de force' quite rare in stations of this type. It consists of two pedimented pavilions either side of the booking lobby visible through an arcaded entrance.
Station buildings, signal box, footbridges and platforms are included. Footscray Railway Station is an important component of the classified Mount Alexander Murray Valley Railway line built in 1852.
