Statement of Significance
Built in the 1850s by James Moyle, of Ivy Cottage, High Street, Prahran, presumably for private use, this small chamber organ of four stops is the only known surviving work of its builder and the earliest extant known example of indigenous organbuilding in Victoria. Following a number of moves, the organ was given to the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and restored before its installation at St Linus's Anglican Church, Merlynston (Coburg North) in 1985. The organ has a Gothic-style case with a crenallated cornice and three cusped arches enclosing gilt dummy pipes. The original builder's plate, pipework, action and hand-blowing survive.
