Statement of Significance
Completed in 1898 for Melbourne financier Lawrence Benjamin, this large two-storey Italianate mansion is of local historical significance as one of the last surviving house in Queens Road. It is of architectural significance as a representative example of the special covenant requirements for house construction in that area under the conditions of the subdivision of Albert Park grounds, and as a typical example of the group of large ninetenth century dwellings in this style that were built for Melbourne's wealthy upper middle class in the St Kilda Road/Queens Road area.
