Statement of Significance
Dudley House was erected in 1858-59 by the Public Works Department and originally served as the district lands office. The two storey brick structure has a rendered facade. The street front comprises a triple arch single storey arcade with three matching windows behind and on the first floor. The building now serves as the headquarters for the Bendigo Historical Society.
This is a notable early public building and survives from early times. It is simply composed and reflects the design criteria of the Public Works Department's early period of development.
The elegant arcade and the shuttered windows above are notable external features. The building is an essential feature of the View Street precinct and a fine element of this important historic city.
The building is intact and in a sound structural condition.
