Statement of Significance
One of the most impressive residences in Kyneton, Kyneton Lodge was built in 1914-15 for John Campbell Rennie. It is an early and large bungalow, with a symmetrical plan, dominated by a pair of projecting wide, low pitched gable elements, flanking a central two storey section topped by a hipped roof, and a continuous verandah.
How is it significant? Kyneton Lodge is of Local architectural and historical significance.
Why is it significant? Kyneton Lodge is an unusual and relatively early example of the Californian Bungalow style. The house is unique in Kyneton as the largest and most distinctive bungalow design. The house is substantially intact, but for the imitation brick cladding above the entrance, and the unfortunate loss of the unusual curved verandah brackets.
Kyneton Lodge is also significant for its association with a prominent local figure, J.C. Rennie.
