Statement of Significance
This four room attic cottage was constructed of local limestone rubble with basalt quoins and timber shingle roof in 1856. The cottage, which retains its central attic dormer is an important example of Colonial Georgian vernacular building traditions in Victoria and is representative of cottage architecture of the first years of settlement in Port Fairy. The building is distinctively enhanced with basalt quoins and architraves and decorated timber barges. The bullnose verandah (c.1900) was destroyed in 1975 and not replaced. The interior details and staircase are of special interest.
Group Statement of Significance: A varied group of Port Fairy's early cottages, built of local bluestone and limestone prior to 1872; noting especially the simple fan light of No 68; the bay window with ventilating pane, and the dormer window (now blocked) with No 66 and the dwarf wall of No 64. The verandahs and front doors are of later date. Group Classification includes B3231 for 64 Campbell St & B3237 for 68 Campbell St. Part of Port Fairy Historic Area.
Group Classified: 08/06/1972.
