Statement of Significance
A two-storey bluestone structure with a stucco street facade erected c 1870 as the Volunteer Arms Hotel.
to replace a timber building which was licensed in 1868. The name of the hotel was changed to the Market Hotel in 1873. The building has been used as a private residence since the 1920s. This stone structure has a rendered facade, upon which some of the original washed coatings and lines simulating stone blocks are still visible. Features of the Conservative Classical Revival design are the window and door surrounds, the quoins and the parapets. The facade is essentially symmetrical, with two doors.
