Statement of Significance
File Note: The monument is a handsome pile on concrete foundation. The first base is Harcourt granite, the second of Greytown granite, surmounted by a pedestal and column of highly polished green granite from Belgium. A lamp stands above. At the foot of the monument is set a gun forming an effective and fitting touch. The pedestal which carries the inscriptions has four sides with a design of crossed rifles.
These are the inscriptions: "Erected by the residents of Longwood District, in memory of local soldiers who died in Boar War 1899-1902. Lest We Forget."
The lamp has been destroyed.
