Statement of Significance
A Single-manual organ of five speaking stops, built in 1845 by Bevington and Sons, London and intitally placed in Christ Church, Geelong. After subsequent moves to Maldon and Hamilton, it was installed at Wangaratta in 2001, where it is placed at the rear of the Lady Chapel. Retaining its original oak console, action, pipework, case and windchest, it is the only intact example of a Bevington organ in Victoria and the earliest extant example of its builder's work in Australia. It is of considerable importance as the earliest pipe organ exported to Victoria to remain largely unaltered from the original apart from the introduction of electric blowing, tuning slides, expanded pedal compass and the refinishing of the Gothic case and dummy facade pipes, none of which detract from its integrity and significance.
