Rare or localised.
Outstanding size
This is a very large specimen of a species rare in cultivation. Other known examples occur at Bendigo, Malmsbury, Eastern Park, Geelong, Warrnambool, and the Royal Botanic Gardens. The species has a very restricted distribution (about 3000 trees)in the wild and occurs in two small areas on Santa Rosa Island and the San Diego Coast, United States. P. torreyana is currently being tested as a plantation tree for use in Australia, New Zealand and Kenya
