CAMBRIAN MINE AND PUDDLER - History
Large-scale mining commenced in the early 1870s on a neighbouring reef in Mosquito Gully where the Cambrian Company erected a large battery and was preparing to work a body of stone which was averaging more than one ounce per ton. In June 1875, the Cambrian Company purchased an additional engine and boiler for their mine. In the 1880s the mine’s battery crushed ore (sands) from deep lead mines including the Duke and Kong Meng companies. By the end of the 1880s the mine was abandoned.
CAMBRIAN MINE AND PUDDLER - Interpretation of Site
Late 19th century quartz mine that retains no visible machinery foundations. Only features surviving are partly excavated mullock heap and tailings dump. There is a possible machinery site marked by brick rubble.

Near the road is a levelled platform with a scatter of bricks which is the likely location of the mine’s machinery. The tailings pond is massive, approx. 600 metres long and 8 to 10m high in places. It runs along the eastern side of Cambrian Track. The dump has been partly quarried and now used by trail bike riders. There is no evidence of cyanide vats or puddler.
