What is significant?
The Tarwin Lower Primary School No.4275, to the extent of the school building designed by the Public Works Department and constructed in 1929, at 34 School Road, Tarwin Lower is significant. It is a typical interwar one room school of standard design with a gable roof and an offset projecting gable porch with a side entry door. It has two sets of tall multi-pane double hung windows to the south and a single set to the north, and there is a pair of four pane windows in the end wall of the porch.

How is it significant?
The Tarwin Lower Primary School No.4275 is of local historic and social significance to the South Gippsland Shire.
Why is it significant?
Historically, it is associated with the development of Tarwin Lower during the interwar period following the opening of the butter factory, which resulted in the need for a permanent school in the township. (Criterion A)
It has social value for its strong associations with the Tarwin Lower community through its use as a school for over 90 years. The school was established with the support of the local community and they have continued to play an active role in the development of the school. (Criterion G)
