Statement of Significance
The Meeniyan Police Station complex was demolished inDecember 2001and January2002and replaced with the present buildings. The statement of significance for the complex as it was is as follows:
What is significant?
The Meeniyan Police Station complex, comprising the station and residence constructed in 1949 and an early portable lock up, at Whitelaw Street, Meeniyan.
Why is it significant?
The Meeniyan Police Station complex is of local historic, aesthetic and technical significance to the township of Meeniyan.
Historically, it demonstrates the development of police facilities in the Shire in the post war period.
Aesthetically, the station and residence are of interest as an integrated complex that exhibit moderne influences.
Technically, the portable lock up is a locally rare example of a prefabricated building that demonstrates how this technique was used to create readily transportable structures for use in rural areas.

Meeniyan Police Station Complex - Physical Description 1
The Meeniyan Police Station complex comprises the station office, residence, garage and a small portable lock up. The station is a small weatherboard building with a gable roof. A brick chimney is placed centrally in the facade and the corner window demonstrate moderne influence. The residence, which is located to one side is asymmetrical in plan with a gable roof and a projecting bay. A simple garage is situated between these two buildings. To the rear of the Station is a small portable lock up which appears to be constructed of four panels with horizontal weatherboards that have been literally bolted together at the corners.
