PETHYBRIDGES ROAD MINE TUNNEL SITE - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: On 5/2/1855 the land on which the site is located was purchased by William Swan Urquhart, the former Government Surveyor, who had settled in Taradale. The mining activity at this site probably took place during the 1860s and 1870s, when the Victoria Reef was being worked. It may have been associated with the puddling machine at site H7723-0532, located approximately 200 metres to the west, which was operating in 1861. The Mine Register Quarterly Report of June 1879 records that various small parties of miners were working in the gullies and hillsides on the private land of Mr. Urquhart.Heritage Inventory Description
