It is also included on the Victorian Heritage Inventory, for its potential to contain historical archaeological remains associated with the settlement and growth of early Melbourne. Under the terms of the Heritage Act 2017 there is protection for all historical archaeology sites and objects in the state.

EQUITY CHAMBERS - Heritage Inventory Description
Site of Jewish Synagogue from 1850s. Also associated buildings, e.g. Hebrew School.
Heritage Inventory Significance: CITATION - NOTABLE BUILDING (AM425): A SIX-STOREY OFFICE BUILDING CONSTRUCTED IN 1931 FOR THE EQUITY TRUSTEES EXECUTORS AND AGENCY CO TO A DESIGN BY OAKLEY AND PARKES. ONE OF THE FEW LARGE BUILDINGS ERECTED IN THE CITY DURING THE GREAT DEPRESION, IT IS A FLAMBOYANTLY DETAILED BUILDING UTILISING A MODERN INTERPRETATION OF THE ROMANESQUE STYLE. THE ARCADE AT THE GROUND FLOOR WAS A RARE GESTURE, AT THE TIME, TO THE COMFORT OF THE PUBLIC.
