Statement of Significance
This place is included on the Victorian Heritage Inventory, for its potential to contain historical archaeological remains associated with the settlement and growth of early Melbourne. Under the terms of the Heritage Act 2017 there is protection for all historical archaeology sites and objects in the state.

1850 - building possibly on this site. 1855 - Commissariat stores and/or Immigration Office. 1866 - building on site. 1888 - one-, two- and three-storey buildings and yard. 1905 - same, Salvation Army.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Site is part of Block 16, initially set aside for Government purposes. May therefore contain evidence of pre-Grid & early settlement due to peripheral nature of structures & poor documentation.
