Statement of Significance
The house at 102 Main Street, Great Western, contributes to the significant, single storey, pitched roof central township area. The house also has significance as a reasonably externally intact example of a Late Victorian style. The design qualities of this house suggest that it was constructed in the late 19th or early 20th century.
The house at 102 Main Street is historically and architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with residential developments in Great Western in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and it demonstrates some original design qualities of a Late Victorian style. These qualities include the recessed hipped roof form that traverses the site, together with the gable roof and hipped verandah that project towards the street frontage. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the asymmetrical composition, single storey height, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding overpainted green, horizontal weatherboard wall cladding, timber framed double hung windows, timber framed doorway, narrow eaves and the timber verandah columns. The front timber picket fence and scrolled metal gate also contribute to the significance of the place.

House, 102 Main Street, GREAT WESTERN - Physical Description 1
The house at 102 Main Street (Western Highway), Great Western, makes a significant architectural contribution to the single storey, pitched roof central township area. The house is situated on an average-sized residential allotment and has a substantial front setback of approximately 8 metres. The front garden consists of grassed areas and perimeter gardens, with a timber picket fence, approximately 1200 mm high, and scrolled metal gate forming the boundary.
The asymmetrical, single storey, horizontal weatherboard, Late Victorian style house is characterised by a recessed hipped roof form that traverses the site, together with a minor gable roof and hipped verandah that project towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in galvanised corrugated iron overpainted green. Narrow overhangs are features of the eaves. The timber framed double hung windows and the doorway are early features. The front verandah is supported by introduced square timber columns with a timber herringbone valance forming a decorative feature.
