Statement of Significance
The Railway Trolley in the grounds of St. Andrew's Uniting Church, Marnoo, has significance as a legacy of the mode of transport used by the Presbyterian Minister, Rev. Shugg and his successors, between Marnoo, Rupanyup and Banyena (Presbyterian parish) in the early 20th century.
The Railway Trolley is historically and socially significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with the development of the railway line between Rupanyup and Marnoo from 1909, and particularly with the Rev. E.R. Shugg and his successors, as his mode of transport between the towns from 1916 until 1926. The trolley continues to be recognised for this historical purpose by the Marnoo community today.
The Railway Trolley is scientifically significant at a LOCAL level. As a private railway trolley in rural Victoria, it represents an unusual technological development for the early 20th century.
Overall, the Railway Trolley in the grounds of St. Andrew's Uniting Church, Marnoo, is of LOCAL significance.
