Comprising an open grassed sports ground and four stuccoed gate piers at the entrance, the park and gate piers were established in 1921 and 1924 respectively, initially in honour of those who fought and died in the First World War. The names of those who fought and died in the Second World War were added to the gate piers in the mid 20th century.
The Soldiers' Memorial Park and Gates are historically and aesthetically significant at a LOCAL level. They are associated with recreational developments in Marnoo immediately after the First World War in 1919, and demonstrate important visual qualities. These qualities include the open grassed sports ground with perimeter trees, and the four stuccoed gate piers with marble tablets having the names of those soldiers who fought and died in the First and Second World Wars inscribed on them. The scrolled metal pedestrian gates also contribute to the significance of the place.
