Statement of Significance as recorded under the Queenscliff Heritage Study 2009
he Norfolk Island pine 'Christmas tree' at the corner of Grimes and Point Lonsdale roads is of historic significance as one of a number of large Norfolk Island Pines within the Borough of Queenscliffe. The tree is also of aesthetic significance as one of a number of specimens which help define the character of the Borough, having a strong maritime association and being a dominant feature of the skyline. Individually, the tree's prominent location at the entrance to Point Lonsdale adds to its aesthetic significance. The Norfolk Island Pine is of social significance for its long standing use as a lit Christmas tree.

The 'Christmas Tree' at the corner of Grimes and Point Lonsdale Roads, Point Lonsdale is one of the best examples of the species in the Borough Queenscliffe. The tree is a large, healthy specimen prominently located at the entrance to Point Lonsdale. When lit, the glow of the tree can be seen well out to sea.[i] The tree is approximately 36m high by 19m wide. From its size, the tree is likely to be 140 years old.
