Statement of Significance
The Warringal Village is of local historical significance. The village was laid out in 1838-39, and thus was probably the third or fourth Government township design in Victoria, the others being Melbourne, Williamstown and Pentridge (Coburg).
The area-part of the original village reserve-retains some of Hoddle's original street alignments. The most significant remaining buildings include St John's Anglican Church, the village's second oldest building, and subsequent civic buildings such as the Police Residence and Court House.
The adjoining Heidelberg Park is an important surviving 19th century landscape.
