Statement of Significance
The Sherwood Road and Thoresby Grove precinct is adjacent to the Marshall Street Precinct. The area is architecturally homogenous, containing a high proportion of Queen Anne style houses. The area is enhanced by the hilly topography and original landscaping, including the median strip.

Sherwood Rd & Thoresby Gve - Physical Description 1
Thoresby Grove is accessed off Sherwood Road, which is oriented north-east - south-east. The houses included in this precinct were generally built during 1900-1910 and are consequently of the Queen Anne style. Some owners of these houses were connected with prominent Heidelberg families such as the Stone, Latham, Sharp and Raymond families.
The houses are generally asymmetrically composed with either Marseilles-pattern terracotta tiled roofs; face red brick or weatherboard and rough cast rendered walls; and turned timber verandah posts with fretted or slatted friezes. Most properties would have originally possessed picket fences and some appear to have survived (i.e. 23 Thoresby Grove). No. 1 Sherwood Road, because of its notable garden from a later period, is an exception.

Landscape
Thoresby Grove Median
The median in Thoresby Grove (1921-29) still possesses its original dry stone rock work, but only intermittent planting survives. The planting is at its thickest opposite 35 Thoresby Grove where Lillaceae (Agapanthus var.) are clumped throughout, with Sage bushes, Geraniums, Ivy and Rosaceae (Prunus var.) in isolated areas. The Canary Island Date Palm (Phoenix canariensis), rocker and Lillaceae (Agapanthus var.) at the north end of this median are notable. Pipe railing has replaced the angle cut timber, post and rail throughout.
Plantation, Sherwood Road South
This plantation consists of a large range of shrubs and trees including Oaks, Sage (Artemisia arborescens), Golden Pittosporum, Tamarisk, Veronica (Hebe speciosa), Mirror Plant and Lillaceae (Agapanthus var.) some of which have become overgrown.
Presumably this reserve was meant to contain discrete clumps of planting contrasting in flower and leaf colour, clipped to shape and set below a canopy of mature trees and large evergreen shrubs. Now it possesses a wild, informal quality.
