Veterans Description for Public
Sandridge Naval Battery - Veterans Description for Public
The Sandridge Naval Battery formerly located at the end of Kerferd Road as early as 1855, was operated by the Naval. The four carriage mounted guns operated on an elevated embankment platform and were to be incorporated into Scratchley's 1860 plan for the Port Phillip defences. The battery was paired with a similar battery at Point Gellibrand, whose combined gunfire effectively restricted access into Hobson's Bay.
