Tallangatta War Memorial - Physical Description 1
To the east end of the Central Reserve, is a war memorial in a broad area designated by concrete pavers. There are five components to the memorial: a central, squat obelisk of grey unpolished granite with piers to the corners with names outlined in polished black granite panels to each face.[1] The central obelisk commemorates those who served in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam whereas the names to the corner pillars listed are those who served in WWII and the latter conflicts.

In the eastern part of the Tallangata Central Reserve Towong Street, is a war memorial in a broad area designated by concrete paving. There are five components to the memorial: a central, squat obelisk of grey unpolished granite, surrounded by four columns, one in each corner of the paved square. On every face of the column the names of soldiers are outlined on polished black granite panels. The central obelisk commemorates those who served in the First World War, Second World War, Korea and Vietnam whereas the names to the corner pillars listed are those who served in the Second World War and the later conflicts. Major General W.B. "Digger" James unveiled the monument in 1996. The funding for the memorial was provided by a Federal grant as part of the Australia Remembers 50th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
